Books for Writers

Hi, Everyone!

I recently came up with an idea for an ensemble dramedy. Are there any books that could help guide me during the writing process?

Thanks in advance!

  • "Save The Cat" by Blake Snyder. I'm only two chapters in and it's already helped me make progress on the feature I'm writing.

  • Thanks, Liz! I've started reading that book as well and it is very helpful.

  • Story by Robert Mckee
    Books by James Scott Bell
    Youtube Videos

  • Thanks so much Jesani!I'll definitely be checking those out.

  • Save The Cat (and the sequel) - the reason I like this one is because it provides the simplest and most obvious framework for a movie. Do I adhere to it 100%? No. But I always start with it.

On Writing - Stephen King: This was gifted to me by a screenwriting professor. Part memoir, part how-to, it's a great read for anyone who loves literature and creative writing.

  • Thanks so much Ken! I didn't know there was a sequel to Save The Cat.

  • So many. But a few to get started are:

Story Maps by Daniel P. Calvisi
Writing Deep Scenes by Martha Alderson
    Emotional Impact by Karl Iglesias
Essentials on Screenwriting by Richard Walter

    Good luck!
